Homecoming 2017--What a Blast!
Our Alumni showed up in great numbers to support our Knights to an amazing victory against the Pioneer High School Panthers! Many of us started the evening at the pre-game reception hosted by the Alumni Association with snacks, drinks, and mingling in the Heritage Lobby of the gym.
Alumni for many different classes and decades joined together, sharing their Knight Pride, funny stories, and showing off memorabilia--thanks to Diane Martino for bringing her Letterman's Jacket from back in the day with the CIF championship patch for gymnastics! Who remembers when St. Joe's had a gymnastics team? Or the Blaylock's and their crew all decked out in the Class of 1972 Letter jackets--they proved how united our classes are.
The class of 1997 hosted a "reception in a reception" for their 20 year reunion and had a wonderful turnout of alumni with their families. Hopefully, this will become a trend and any class celebrating a milestone anniversary will use Homecoming as a kick off to a great reunion weekend.
Eventually, everyone headed over to the game and either enjoyed watching the game in our Alumni VIP section in the end zone or in the reserved seats in the bleachers. The game was great and the homecoming ceremony at half time was as wonderful as we all remember--Princesses and their Escorts driving around the track in fabulous cars borrowed from Home Motors Chevrolet. When Kate Adam, class of 2018, got crowned Queen it was a thrill to see her and her proud dad walk down the field together.
Then, another amazing Fireworks display rounded out the Homecoming half time show. This time, the unique and wonderful treat of a fireworks display was paid for by our generous alumni! Thanks to members of the classes of 1977, 1987, 1997 and 2007, we raised enough money to fund this activity without needing to use academic and program funds from the school. Congratulations to Paul Wellenkamp, Lillian Sorheim & Joni Jokela for winning one of the coveted SJHS Alumni sweatshirts after being entered into a drawing when they made their fireworks donation. Look out classes of 1978, 1988, 1998, and 2008--it's your turn next year!
If you couldn't make it this year, we hope you can enjoy all the fun by looking at pictures from the great night. Also, visit our Facebook page @alumknights anytime to get news about events and activities that support our great SJHS Alumni!
