Have a wonderful summer!
Thank you for welcoming me!
It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the new Principal of St. Joseph High School. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich tradition of spiritual strength and academic excellence. During these past few weeks, I have had interactions with parents, teachers, students, staff members, and local priests. From these conversations, it is clear there is a collaborative environment between all stakeholders to provide the best possible academic and religious experience for our students. I look forward to fostering these relationships and working with teachers and staff to provide a world-class educational experience for each child.
I have been dedicated to the field of education for 18 years; I have worked in summer arts programs, public high schools and middle schools, private schools, Diocesan schools and in many capacities. I have been a full-time school administrator, a tenure-track faculty member at a university, a curriculum developer, and an English teacher (both Advance Placement and International Baccalaureate trained) in addition to being an adjunct professor in several graduate colleges of education. I am elated to bring my skills as an educational leader to St. Joseph High School and to work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child’s success. Along with teachers and staff, I will work hard to continue the success established by previous administration by building strong relationships with parents, students, faculty, staff, our Archdiocesan and Josephite religious community, and with community partners. We will focus on character and religious education competence, National Standards and Benchmark skills, use of data to inform instruction, consistent implementation of core instructional practices to increase students’ achievement, and providing exciting and challenging enrichment opportunities for all students. We want all St. Joseph High School graduates to be prepared for success to image Christ in mind, heart, body, and soul.
All of us at St. Joseph High School are eager and excited to begin what promises to be a very positive and productive year together! This year we will continue to provide academic experiences for our students that are rigorous, relevant, and help our students build their personal relationships with Christ. As your Principal, it is important to me that everyone who steps through our doors—teachers, students and parents—know our mission and core values, and seek to help one another live that mission! This attitude enables us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, faith-filled, and nurturing environment. We are adding a weekly Mass to our academic calendar to share in the Eucharist as a school community; parents and community members are always welcome at Mass, and I hope that I will be seeing many of you there.
Please know that I highly value home/school communication here at SJHS; it is vital and plays an integral role in each student’s success. To further open those communication lines, I have added a monthly "principal coffee talk" to our calendar; this is open to all adult stakeholders. We will provide coffee and doughnuts at an informal meeting to share new information, build community, and/ or answer community questions. I also hope to see you there! Please do not hesitate to contact me or any other member of the SJHS team if/when the need arises. We will do likewise. We want and encourage our parents to stay in the know about their child’s studies, assignments, assessments, and school activities, as well as other events and happenings.
Thank you all for welcoming me to St. Joseph High School. It has been amazing to further observe and integrate into our wonderful, spiritual, professional learning community!
I feel truly blessed to be the instructional leader of such an awesome school community.
Yours in Education,
Erinn Dougherty, M.A.Ed., M.Ed., Ed.D.(ABD), CPSA
Principal, St. Joseph High School, Archdiocese of Los Angeles
The core value of St. Joseph High School is to image Christ in mind, heart, body, and soul.
“May you know how to put yourself out cheerfully, discreetly and generously each day, serving others and making their lives more pleasant. To act in this way is to practice the true charity of Jesus Christ." -Saint Josemaria Escriva
