Position Opening:

We seek a dynamic and talented teacher who enjoys secondary education and who can teach a variety of social science courses, including U.S. History, U.S. Government, and Economics. This teacher also needs to enjoy Physical Education, as he/she will be also instructing PE II (Physical Education; second year).

The ideal teacher will create a rich learning environment, employ varied teaching approaches, and use multiple tools to assess student understanding and competencies. The teacher will have the ability to work collaboratively with other teachers, will be able to innovate through blended course arrangements if required, and employ differentiated instructional methods in developing and delivering effective lessons to a diverse group of learners. Enthusiasm for classroom innovation and ability to devise a variety of educational experiences is valued at St. Joe's: use of inquiry-based instructional methods (e.g. POGIL), use of dynamic assessment tools, class discussions, group projects to deepen student understanding.

Flexibility, humor and willingness to work with students inside and outside the class are valued. The teacher will have preference for a faith-based, Catholic values-based curriculum and a proactive orientation to seek parent input and counsel to effectively advance student success.

Duties and responsibilities include:

·Daily objectives turned in weekly for course

·Preparation and implementation of daily lessons

·Delivery of assignments and timely evaluation of all relevant class work and student progress

·Design and implementation of appropriate, authentic assessments and support of individual student learning styles

·Timely and proactive communication with parents about student progress both in class and on Canvas (the school's learning management system).

·Collaboration with other members of faculty, administration, and staff on experiential, interdisciplinary and community-based opportunities that add to the school community

·Willingness to adapt and change instructional approaches based on peer and supervisory suggestions and recommendations

·Participation in school sponsored curricular and extra-curricular Catholic activities on and off campus

·Effective and timely communication with varied school constituencies in person, and through various electronic forms of communication

·Support for divisional and school-wide initiatives through committee work, where appropriate

·Supervision and/or participation in non-academic activities, including lunch and study hall as appropriate


Requirements:


Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. degree in education, social science, history, economics, political science, or a related field.

Minimum of five years teaching experience preferred, however, candidates with less experience may be considered.

The successful candidate will also possess a positive attitude, excellent written and verbal skills, strong organizational skills, and proven success within a work setting that requires collaboration, cooperation and collegiality.

The successful candidate must possess (or acquire within 6 years) a State of California issued teaching certificate.

Ability to lead one or more co-curricular activities is desirable. The school welcomes the opportunity to continue to find ways to diversify its faculty.

2019-2020 School Year: Learning Specialist (STEP Coordinator) - High School

Description:

The STEP Coordinator is the learning specialist tasked with leading support for students who need reasonable adjustments or additional support to meet the learning outcomes in the rigorous academic environment of St. Joseph High School.

The coordinator is responsible for holding STEP meetings (creating and following the ADLA Support Team Education Plan (STEP) Meeting Agenda) for each STEP student annually to determine student strengths; analyze gathered data; prioritize concerns about the student's progress; create strategies for classroom, school, and home; and generate an action plan.

Additionally, the STEP coordinator will hold STEP resource to meet in small groups and work one-on-one with STEP students to assist them in academic, spiritual, and social emotional success. The action plan/STEP plan requires the Team to prioritize the identified support strategies, identify the person who will be responsible for implementing each strategy, and develop a timeline for implementation and evaluation. The Team must record the Support Team Education Plan (STEP) plan and schedule dates for follow-up meetings to monitor student progress and results. The STEP coordinator is not only tasked to provide daily (usually) or weekly contact to provide and implement strategies, but also is responsible for ensuring that all team members are following the STEP plan with fidelity and documentation.

The ideal STEP candidate would be comfortable providing guidance writing a term paper for 12th grade English, giving feedback and construction advice to meet the rubric requirements in a course like Western Civilization, assisting students in understanding Physics’ homework, and helping students with high school mathematics. Additionally, the ideal STEP coordinator would be a practicing Catholic who would promote a Catholic worldview in all dealings with his/her students.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Point person to initiate, request, and follow through with accommodations for the ACT and/or SAT testing.
  • Provide consultation to counselors, teachers, and administrators with strategies to support students with various learning differences.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and community agencies to coordinate testing and educational interventions as necessary.
  • Provide in-service training to help faculty and staff understand and work with students with special needs.
  • Act as an academic adviser with school counselor to STEP students to counsel students on course selection, develop a four-year plan, and monitor student grades/progress.
  • Conference with teachers and parents to implement academic plans to ensure students are on track for graduation and competitive towards their post-secondary goals.
  • Pursue professional growth.

Requirements:


Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience working with adolescents in the education or mental health profession.
  • Strong command of high school curriculum and willingness to collaborate with others.


Strongly Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Education, core subject, or related field:
    • OR possession of an appropriate Pupil Services Credential and/or APCC, LPCC, MFT, LPC, LAC, NCC, or equivalent;
      • OR California Special Education (Education Specialist Instruction) Credentials.
    • At least two years of successful tutoring, teaching, or counseling (preferably at the high school level).

The Cheer Coordinator for Athletics is responsible for providing administrative support and technical training to the St. Joseph High School Cheerleading squads. Reports to the Director of the Spirit Squad.

  • Prepares, organizes and attends practice sessions, all football games, home basketball games, pep rallies, performances, competitions and off-season trainings, advising, technical training and coaching services to the squad at all designated events.
